William Cleveland

Graveside service for William "Bill" Cleveland, 74, of Nisland, SD, formerly of Ekalaka, MT will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, September 8, 2026 at Beaver Lodge Cemetery with Pastor Ted Austin officiating.

Bill passed away on August 11, 2026.

Bill was born on October 15, 1951, in Miles City, Montana, to Patrick and Joanne (Curran) Cleveland. He grew up in Ekalaka, Montana, and graduated from high school in 1970.

Following graduation, Bill enlisted in the United States Navy. He served aboard the USS Chicago and completed more than four years of active service before being honorably discharged. During his time in the Navy, Bill served during the Vietnam era and received several honors, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Action Ribbon and Good Conduct Award.

Following his military service, Bill spent time in California before eventually returning to Montana. In 1981, he moved to South Dakota, where he worked at the VA Hospital in Fort Meade until his retirement. He continued to make South Dakota his home.

Bill enjoyed the simple things in life, especially fishing, growing flowers and spending time playing with his dog, Rose.

Bill is survived by his daughter, Shelly Brower of Missouri; granddaughter, Mazzy Brower; and sisters, Anne (Tim) Fix, Mary (Brian) Quade, and Margaret (George) Kostelecky.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Patrick and Joanne Cleveland.
